In a suspected revenge attack, a 30-year-old history-sheeter was allegedly shot at by three assailants riding a motorcycle in Bawana area of Outer Delhi last night, police said today.
The incident took place when the victim, identified as Ravindra, had gone to purchase liquor from a shop in Sector-1 Bawana, they said.
When he was returning to his car, he was confronted by the three assailants who started an argument with him which soon snowballed into a scuffle. One of them then whipped out a gun and fired at least six rounds at him. The attackers then fled from the spot, according to police.
"As locals rushed to the spot after hearing gunshots, they found Ravindra lying in a pool of blood. He was taken to a nearby hospital from where he was referred to LNJP Hospital where his condition is stated to be critical," said a police official.
One of the attackers has been identified as Rajesh (31) who had recently come out of prison and has a criminal record.
In his statement, Ravindra told police that four months ago, he was locked in the same ward of a jail with Rajesh. Once they had a fight over domination in the prison where Ravindra had thrashed Rajesh black and blue.
"It seems that this attack was carried out in order to seek revenge by Rajesh of his insult in the prison," police said.
After recording the statement of the victim, police have registered a case of attempt to murder at Bawana police station. No arrests have been made so far in the case.
