Former MLA Mohammed Sohrab, whose son Sambia was arrested in connection with the hit-and-run case in which an Air force officer was killed during a Republic Day parade rehearsal, surrendered before a sessions court here today.
Sohrab, said to be a TMC member and a former RJD MLA and charged under IPC sections 120B (criminal conspiracy) and 212 (harbouring a criminal), was granted bail on a personal bond of Rs 1500 by Metropolitan Magistrate Suman Kumar Ghosh.
The court, however, directed Sohrab not to leave the city and appear before it for each hearing in the case.
The senior Sohrab was absconding since the day of the incident on January 13 and police had issued a warrant against him.
Earlier this month, police had filed the charge sheet in the case naming Sambia as the lone occupant of the vehicle when it hit the defence official.
Sambia, the younger son of Sohrab, has been charged under IPC Section 302 (murder).
Sambia's friends arrested in connection with the case - Shahnawaz Khan alias Sanu, and Noor Alam alias Johnny - have been charged under the same sections as the senior Sohrab.
Corporal Abhimanyu Gaud, a drill instructor, was mowed down by the Sambia-driven Audi SUV early morning on Red Road. The brand new white Audi broke three guard rails before killing Gaud.
