Hit-n-run: Man arrested for cyclist's death

A man was arrested today in connection with alleged hit-and-run case, in which a 65-year-old veteran cyclist, Ashok Khale, succumbed to his wounds following an accident near Mankhurd octroi naka signal on the Sion-Panvel highway last week, police said.
Moiz Sheikh (25), who had earlier claimed to have spotted Khale and rushed him to hospital, was called to police station for questioning this evening in connection with the incident, a senior police official, attached to Mankhurd police station said.
Sheikh, who was driving his car, allegedly hit Khale, who was cycling from his residence in Dadar to Khopoli, the official said.
"He confessed to his crime," the official said.
Following his confession, he has been booked under section 304 (a) (causing death by negligence), besides other relevant sections of IPC, the official said.
Khale had met with an accident a few meters ahead of Vashi bridge on the Sion-Panvel highway on November 5.
Shaikh had earlier claimed that was travelling to Lonavla with friends in his SUV, when he spotted Khale and his damaged bicycle and rushed him to a hospital.
Kale succumbed to his multiple wounds on Saturday night.
