HMOA call off the strike after CM's intervention

The Himachal Pradesh Medical Officers Association (HMOA) has called off their strike following assurance from Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh that their demands would be looked into.
Representatives of the association discussed the demands with Chief Secretary V C Pharka and later called on the Chief Minister.
Singh assured the doctors that the state government will discuss the issue of making attacks on doctors on duty a "cognizable and non-bailable" offence and that a bill in this regard would be introduced in the state Assembly to make such provisions in the relevant laws.
The association's state patron Dr Baldev Thakur, state president Dr Jeeva Nand Chauhan announced to call off the strike with immediate effect.
The Chief Minister said the demand for grant of time scales would also be discussed in the Cabinet and promotion of Block Medical Officers (BMO) would be done in a time bound manner.
The demand of accommodation for resident doctors would be looked into, Singh said.
