Police in Kunming, capital of Yunnan Province, received a phone call yesterday warning about a time bomb placed in the Beijing-bound aircraft of China Eastern Airlines.
Police then immediately carried out a contingency plan for major emergencies and evacuated the plane, but a check-up did not find any bomb, local officials said.
The man behind the bomb hoax was detained last night, state-run Xinhua news agency reported.
Such hoax calls have become a frequent occurrence in China in recent days affecting several flights.
On May 17, all flights at the Jiangbei International Airport in southwest China's Chongqing Municipality were disrupted for over one hour following a false bomb threat.
Suspects in all these cases have been arrested.
