With rains battering Nilgiris district for the last three days, the District administration declared holiday tomorrow for educational institutions, even as a 43-year-old woman was washed away in surging waters.
District Collector P Shankar declared holiday for schools and colleges, considering non-stop rains across the district, official sources said.
Meanwhile, a 43-year old woman, Kalpana was washed away when she tried to cross a bridge due to sudden spate in the Mayar, near Kothagiri today, police said.
Search is on for her, they said.
Some eight houses were partially damaged in the rains at Kothagiri, while two parked cars were damaged when two trees fell on it near Coonoor railway station.
Nearly 40 trees were uprooted on Ooty-Gudalur road and Ooty-Kothagiri road due to rains, they said.
The administration also alerted people living in low lying areas on the rising water level and officials were asked to gear up to accommodate villagers in community halls and schools.
