Holiday in Lakhimpur on Nov 19

Assam Government has declared a public holiday on November 19 in areas falling under Lakhimpur Parliamentary constituency and Baithalangso (ST) Assembly constituency for scheduled byelections on that day.
All state government offices, revenue and Magisterial Courts, educational institutions falling under these constituencies will remain closed on that day, an official release said here today.
The day has been declared a public holiday under the NI Act, 1881 with all Central Government offices, public sector undertakings, corporations, boards, banks, educational institutions etc. Remaining closed in these areas.
The byelection to Lakhimpur parliamentary constituency was necessitated following the election of sitting BJP MP and now Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal from the Majuli Assembly seat in April this year.
For Baithalangso Assembly constituency in the newly-created West Karbi Anglong district, the bypoll was necessitated when the sitting Congress legislator Mansing Rongpi quit the Congress and also resigned as MLA to join the BJP in July this year.
