Homage paid to former President Kalam on 1st death anniversary

:WelfareMinister M Kandasamy led the Union Territory of Puducherry in paying homage to former President A P J Abdul Kalam on his first death anniversary.
At a function got up on the occasion,the minister handed over saplings to students.
Deputy Speaker V P Sivakolundhu, legislators of ruling Congress and DMK legislator R Siva were among those present.
Various outfits and organisations held events to observe the death anniversary.
Pondicherry Heritage Round Table 167 held elocution and essay contests for students of Manimegalai Government Higher Secondary school in neighbouring Nellithope today.
Parliamentary Secretary to Chief Minister A John Kumar who paid homage at the portrait of the former President on the premises of the school, recalled the humane qualities, accessibility and simplicity of Kalam and said he was a staunch patriot and an ardent visionary.
John Kumar also said that the former President had ignited the imagination of youth through his speeches and writings.
