Home Guard, woman held for chain-snatchings

Police today arrested a Home Guard and his woman associate in connection with a series of chain snatching incidents here.
Police apprehended Mahender Singh Chowdas, who is presently working as Home Guard in Cyberabad Commissionerate's Traffic Wing, on the basis of suspicion.
On being interrogated, he confessed to have committed 36 offences, police said.
"On interrogation, Mahender revealed that he was alone committing chain snatchings for quite sometime. His modus operandi was to go on the roads on opposite side of women (on a bike) and snatch their gold chains and escape," they said.
Mahender committed 36 offences and stole gold ornaments collectively weighing 1.2 kgs worth Rs 30 lakh.

"He kept some gold ornaments with him and used to hand over some to his woman associate for sale," a release from Cyberabad Police said, adding, that all stolen property has been recovered from their possession.
