Patients who need medical attention even after getting discharged from the hospital can now avail homecare nursing service, the first of its kind in eastern India.
The C K Birla Group of Hospitals which runs the B M Birla Heart Research Centre and the Calcutta Medical Research Institute (CMRI) has now rolled out a fleet of eight nurses who are specialised in providing nursing care at home for post-operative cardiac patients after discharge.
"We are starting in a small way with cardiac patients. We will soon add more nurses to the fleet and make the service available for all kind of patients from any hospital in Kolkata," Dr S P Singh, group CEO of C K Birla Healthcare told PTI.
He said even after being discharged from hospitals, many patients need constant medical attention to maintain the continuity of medical attention but they end up hiring untrained nurses.
"The market for such home nursing services is completely unorganised. Most such nurses have never been trained on how to react to an emergency situation or give medication," Singh said.
The nurses for the homecare service have been trained in wound dressing, nebulisation, catheterisation, post-surgical care and rehabilitative care, etc., Singh added.
