"It can be safely concluded that the prosecution has been able to prove beyond reasonable doubt that the accused persons had caused the death of the victims with the common intention after giving them merciless beatings by tying them with rope and thereafter electrocuting them on various parts of their body," Additional Sessions Judge Ramesh Kumar said.

The case pertains to honour killing of Yogesh and Asha who hailed from Scheduled Caste and upper caste respectively. The duo were in love and had disclosed to their parents that they intended to get married.

Asha's family, engaged in the business of selling vegetables, had objections to the boy's caste and in June 2010, her parents Suraj and Maya, along with his uncle Om Prakash, his wife Khushboo and Asha's cousin Sanjeev, killed the couple by beating and electrocuting them.

All the five have been convicted for murder and voluntarily causing hurt.

The court has reserved the sentence even as Additional Public Prosecutor P K Verma has pleaded for strictest punishment arguing it is rarest of rare case.

"It is a case of honour killing in which the conservative thinking of our society has become transparent...Accused persons in full senses committed double murder after torturing the boy and the girl and givng them beatings, tying with ropes and givign electric shocks, which fall under the category of rarest of rare case," Verma said.
