With farmers reportedly committing suicide in Haryana recently following crop loss due to unseasonal rains, former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda tonight demanded a special Assembly session in this regard.
"A special session of the assembly should be immediately convened as the situation is turning grave," Hooda told reporters here.
He appealed to the farmers "not to take the extreme step" and demanded that the government provide immediate relief to the peasants.
While Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said in Kalka today that state government is maintaining complete transparency in 'girdawari' (revenue survey) to assess the crop damage due to recent unseasonal rains, Hooda questioned the way in which the assessment was being done.
"The revenue officials are leaving out most of the affected farmers in the process. The survey should be done by forming village committees, in which representatives of the concerned affected village should also be involved," he said.
