Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda today described the first Union budget presented by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley in Parliament as "mediocre", saying the budget lacks vision and offers nothing new.
Reacting to the Budget proposals, Hooda said here the budget belies people's hopes and expectations aroused by harping on the promise of "Achhe Din Aane Wale Hen" both in the run-up to and after the Lok Sabha elections.
"It looks people will have to wait endlessly for the "Achhe Din" to come. People who voted for change have begun to feel the pinch of 'Mehnge Din," he added.
The Chief Minister said that high on rhetoric and low on delivery, this budget offered the man on the street almost no relief.
"Resorting to populism at the cost of fiscal prudence... no steps have been taken to contain inflation. The BJP swears by the farmer but has offered them nothing. The government has done nothing by way of reduction in cost of farm inputs which should serve him as incentive to grow more," he added.
The budget has shattered the hopes of the people in the country, he said, adding that it has ignored Congress-ruled states.
