Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal today questioned the independence of CBI, saying that the premier investigative agency "belonged" to the Centre, even as he hoped it would "rise to the occasion" in probing the Vyapam scam.
"CBI belongs to the Centre... The role of CBI has not been encouraging.
"However, given the magnitude of this mega scam and the loss of human lives, the country hopes CBI will rise to the occasion and do an honest job," Kejriwal said at an event here.
His comments come days after Supreme Court ordered transfer to CBI of investigation into all Vyapam scam cases and the deaths allegedly linked to it.
AAP had demanded an SC-monitored SIT probe into the scam, which has put the Shivraj Singh Chouhan government in Madhya Pradesh in a tight spot.
Earlier, the AAP government had promised a government job to the sister of deceased journalist Akshay Singh, who had died mysteriously while covering the scam, after Kejriwal visited the grieving family.
