BJP today alleged that law and order situation in Uttar Pradesh was deteriorating and the hopes of the people from a young Chief Minister "have been dashed".
"People of UP had voted for SP with the hope that they will be freed from the atrocities of the BSP government. All their hopes, especially with a young chief minister taking charge, have been dashed," BJP spokesperson Sudanshu Trivedi told reporters.
He expressed concern over the increasing number of heinous crimes in Uttar Pradesh, saying the law and order situation had become "worrisome" and there was an urgent need to take appropriate action.
"We strongly condemn the incidents taking place in UP," he said, adding that several cases of rape and violence against victims had come to light in recent days.
"The law and order situation is going from bad to worse. Mulayam Singh Yadav has himself said several times that had he been the chief minister, he would have set things right in no time," Trivedi said.
He also criticised Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav for travelling abroad at this juncture.

Trivedi claimed that SP leaders Shivpal Yadav, Azam Khan, Sirajudin and others had cited their own experiences to show concern over the law and order situation and expressed helplessness.
"We cannot expect much from the main opposition party (BSP) as it has similar elements in its rank and file. There are several power centres in SP and in the government," Trivedi claimed.
He said the state was reeling under floods and only 5 per cent of the relief package had been given to the affected people. Moreover, the Chief Minister was away.
"We hope this situation will improve after the next elections," Trivedi said.
