Hornbill nest adoption programme successful in Arunachal

Out of 29 nests created in the fringe area of Pakke Wildlife Sanctuary, 16 nests were occupied by the magnificent avian species, according to a report released by Mysore based Nature Conservation Foundation at Seijosa yesterday.

Four nests were damaged during the recent forest fire in the fringe area of the sanctuary, the report said.

The programme is an initiative of Ghora Aabhe Society a NGO from the district in association with NCF and the state environment and forest department.

Nyishi youths were paid a monthly honorarium by the NGO to protect the hornbills from extinction.

After successful implementation of the programme, Seijosa is home to four endangered species of hornbills
