A junior clerk and a ward boy in Thane civil hospital were today arrested for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 3.5 lakh from an electricity generator supplier, according to Maharashtra Anti Corruption Bureau.
Accused Ravindra Rathod (33), a junior clerk, and Girish Pawar (33), ward boy, were apprehended at Thane civil hospital while accepting the bribe of Rs 3.50 lakh, which was the first instalment of the total demand of Rs 4 lakh.
The accused had sought money from the complainant to hand him over his sanctioned bills, ACB officials said.
According to the ACB, the victim, who owns a company that supplies electricity generators, had received an order to deliver such devices on the hospital premises.
Accordingly, the complainant supplied and set up the generators at the hospital and asked Rathod to provide him the bills worth over Rs 12 lakh that were sanctioned by the department concerned, they said.
However, Rathod demanded Rs four lakh as bribe to hand him over the bills. The victim subsequently approached ACB officials of Mumbai who accordingly laid a trap today.
Pawar collected the bribe and then handed it over to Rathod after which the duo was taken into custody by the ACB.
