"As part of our mission we do charity every year and conduct free of cost eye-operation, but since this year we are celebrating the 25th year of service to mankind, we are extending our free of cost operation to poor people for entire three months till the festival of Dussehra," said Nemji Gangar, the managing trustee of Manav Kalyan Kendra which runs the hospital in Dahisar area here.
Outlining the eligibility of the getting free of cost operation, Gangar said, "Only those will be given free of cost operation facility who would be having yellow or saffron ration cards or a certificate from tehsildar of belonging to Below Poverty Line or having Rajiv Gandhi Jeevdayee Arogya Yojna card."
Yellow, saffron ration cards as well as Rajiv Gandhi Jeevdayee Arogya Yojna card are issued by the government of Maharashtra for poor people of the state.
Bharat Merchant Chamber, a trust of prominent textile merchandisers of the city, has come forward to bear the cost of all the operations.
Moved by the plight of poor section of the inhabitants of the area around Dahisar, Nemji Gangar garnered support of various friends and philanthropists, mobilised the funds and started an affordable medical facility in the area in 1991, which is celebrating its 25th year of service.
