: Chief Minister N Rangasamy today said that the Perunthalaivar Housing Subsidy scheme, envisaging conversion of huts into concrete houses, would be available soon to beneficiaries wherever the amount was due.
Replying to complaints of A M H Nazeem (DMK) during question time in the Assembly that Karaikal was kept out of the scheme with applicants waiting for years for assistance,he said that the scheme operated by Puducherry Slum Clearance Board faced some hiccups after complaints of irregularities.
Rangasamy said the Board had geared up implementation of the scheme and wherever beneficiaries were yet to get the third and fourth instalments of the subsidy of Rs 1 lakh scheme, they would get the amount soon.
Nazeem alleged Karaikal was 'ignored' and no applicant was granted subsidy in the last four years. Members of the opposition AIADMK and Congress also demanded that government ensure the scheme was operated without delay and any bungling.
Theni Jayakumar (Cong) recalled that a CBI probe had been conducted on some questionable practices in the scheme and said grant of subsidy should not be delayed.
P Purushothaman, AIADMK legislature party leader, said the housing scheme should not be subject to delay or any bungling.
Replying to members' views, the CM said grant of subsidy and arrears of instalments would be disbursed soon.
