Australian body language expert Allan Pease wanted to write about surviving cancer and his own experience of overcoming prostate cancer but the idea soon expanded and he ended up writing with his wife Barbara a book on how to achieve anything in life.
"The Answer: How to take charge of your life & become the person you want to be" by the Peases is practical guide aimed at helping readers take control of their lives, become the persons they want to be, and deal with obstacles and challenges no matter how difficult they may seem.
In the book, brought out by Manjul Publishing House, the authors use a three part formula to show the readers what to do to achieve their goals - "the science of the brain; real life stories, including our own; and third, we make it entertaining and humorous so it's easy to remember".
Allan, who survived cancer thrice over 20 years, is the author of several books including "Body Language" and has co- written with Barbara the popular "Why Men Don't Listen and Women Can't Read Maps".
They say it is simple but not easy for a common man to find answers.
"The starting point is to handwrite a list of everything that you've ever found exciting in your life. Study the list for several days and the things you should be doing will jump out at you. Next you decide what you want, do not decide how.

"The 'common man' spends his life thinking about how he will do something, and consequently he achieves little. When you focus on the what, the how will appear," they told PTI.
According to the authors, hard rules are for fools - a wise person uses guidelines and principles to achieve his goals.
On what people should do when face the problem of plenty, they say, "In most cultures there is a problem where people want more and more of everything, especially money. Working solely for money, however, is a shallow goal that makes a person critical and cynical. Only work on things you are passionate about and on which you can't wait to get started on."
For Pease, there are no perfect answers, there are only answers.
"And often, you must adjust your time, thinking and schedule to make them fit."
Though there may be always a second chance, but the authors say it "may not be as good as the first one".
In Indian culture, many people sit around waiting or praying for the answers to appear, and they rarely do, they say, adding "Take action and take it now".
The top three dos, according to the Peases, are: Do think only about what you want, not how you will achieve it; do use handwriting as your main form of listing goals; and the right time to begin will never appear, do take action now.
And the three top don'ts are: Don't think about how you will do something, think about what you will do; don't take advice from someone who has never done what you want to do; and take what you do seriously, but don't take yourself too seriously.
