The BJP also won the posts of president and vice president of the Hamirpur Nagar Parishad.
Rakesh Thakur and Chandu Lal Chowdhary were elected chairperson and vice chairperson of Hamirpur Zila Parishad defeating Ankush Saini and Arvinder Kaur Dogra with an identical margin of 12-6 for both the posts.
Thakur and Chowdhary were administered the oath of office by the Additional District Magistrate.
However, the Congress managed to win the posts of chairpersons of Bhota and Nadaun Nagar Panchayats.
The first official meeting of the Zila Parishad will be held on January 23.
The BJP also toppled the applecart of the Congress party for the posts of chairman and vice chairman of Bijheri panchayat samitis and party-backed candidates - Anju Rani and Pavan Jagota - won by a margin of one vote each.
The BJP candidates got 13 votes against 12 votes each polled by Congress candidates and one Congress-backed member voted in favour of the BJP, tilting the balance.
