Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh today expressed anguish over "deterioration" in the standard of politics and use of "derogatory language" against political opponents, and said it did not augur well for our democracy and future of the country.
"I have been in electoral politics since 1962 but never seen use of such slanderous and derogatory language against political opponents and publication of the same by the media, and I feel that it is not good for the democracy and future of the country," he said, addressing a public rally at Jwalamukhi in Kangra district.
He said he was happy to see that Himachal Pradesh has progressed a lot but was sad over deterioration in politics and leaders using "intemperate language" and indulging in slanderous campaign.
"One can attack the opponents using decent and dignified language but it seems that decency has deserted the political field," he said.
Reacting to the demand of Union Health Minister J P Nadda for his resignation, the chief minister said, "It is a calculated move of Nadda... As he is also eyeing the post of chief minister."
He alleged that even the central leadership of BJP had stooped very low and a few central leaders were involved in carrying out political vendetta against him.
"The cases that are being pushed against me by state BJP leaders along with a central leader are one and the same being probed time and again by different investigating agencies...," he said.
Singh said it was surprising that three different central agencies have started investigation into one case against him pertaining to the Income Tax returns.
