HP CM lays foundation stone of irrigation scheme

The scheme estimated to cost Rs 97.59 crore will irrigate about 3,000 hectares of farm land in 134 villages, spread across 20 gram panchayats.

Expansion and augmentation of irrigation and drinking water schemes was priority of the government and the budget of Irrigation and Public Health department had been raised from Rs 670 crore in 2007-08 to Rs 20,000 crore for current fiscal, Dhumal said in a public meeting.

He said that 90 per cent population in the state had been provided piped drinking water as compared to 65 per cent at national level.

Water supply schemes are being designed for ensuring 70 litres of water per person per day which was above the national level of 40 litres per person per day.

He said the Nadaun assembly segment had highest number of hand pumps in the state out of which 400 pumps were installed during past four and a half years.

He said that roads extending 3,700-km and 268 new brides had been constructed in the state and all the villages with a population of more than 250 would be linked by roads by end of this financial year.
