Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur today demanded restoration of 'industrial package' for his state on the pattern of assistance provided to north-eastern states.
Thakur, who called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi, also urged that the railway network be expanded and pace of work on Rohtang tunnel be accelerated so that an all weather road connection is provided to tribal Lahaul and Pangi valleys.
He also requested the prime minister for construction of International level airports in the state.
Prime Minister Modi asked the chief minister to identify two to three areas and work so that the state becomes a role model for the entire country.
During the meeting the chief minister urged the prime minister to provide more funds to the state under phase-II of UDAN Yojna so that residents of the state could benefit and more tourists could visit major places.
The chief minister also sought help of the Centre in exploiting immense power potential of the state and urged that permission should be enhanced from one hectare to five hectare for forest clearance.
He also invited Prime Minister to Himachal Pradesh.
