FRA, 2006 was passed to "undo the historical injustice" committed against the Scheduled Tribes and other traditional forest dwellers. But the successive governments have failed to either notify or implement this Act inspite of framing of the rules in 2008, alleged Rajeshwar Singh Negi, chairman of Social Welfare Council of India (SWCI).
He urged the state government to urgently implement the Scheduled Tribes and Other Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forest Rights), Act, 2006 in the scheduled and tribal populated areas and also extended it to the forest dwelling nomadic pastoral communities.
