The language should be promoted so that it could be a bond to unite the nation. "It is an irony in India that no serious efforts have been made to give due status to Hindi," he said.
The Governor also expressed concern over the injustice being done to Hindi in higher education institutes where priority was being given to foreign languages.
Devvrat presented the Raj Bhasha Puraskar to officers and employees of various departments and corporations at the Raj Bhasha Hindi Samman Samaroh organised by the Art, Language and Culture Department here.
"Hindi is spoken in more than 123 countries and there was need for adopting a practical approach for promoting it, instead of just fulfilling formalities," Devvrat said.
The governor released the annual magazine of the department and gave away prizes to students who won various competitions.
