Himachal Pradesh governments is likely to challenge the judgement of High Court, quashing the HP Private Educational Institutions Regulatory Commission Act 2010, in the Supreme Court.
"We are studying the judgement of the HC and exploring the possibility of challenging the judgement in the Supreme Court," Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh told reporters here.
Singh said the Act was passed to put a sound mechanism in place to check malpractices by private educational institutions and universities, and the Regulatory Commission set up under it was doing well.
The HC has, however, now termed it unconstitutional and "we would seek legal remedies to ensure that the private educational institutions did not flout the norms and quality of education was maintained," he said.
The HP High Court on October 19 had quashed the act and rules formulated under it, declaring it "ultra vires".
Private Universities had moved the court, challenging the legality of the state Act.
