HP police identify 314 accident-prone spots: DGP

In a concerted effort to reduce fatal accidents in the state, Himachal Pradesh Police have identified 314 accident prone spots.
On the basis of a survey conducted by Railway and Traffic Wing from 2006 to 2012, it was found about 4,488 accidents took place, leading to death of 1,408 persons and injury of 6,844, Director General of Police B Kamal Kumar today said.
Proactive efforts of the police have yielded positive results in improving road conditions, the DGP said adding, poor driving skills, defective road engineering and mechanical failure were three major factors behind taking toll of more than 1,000 innocent persons every year in the state.
The spots were identified and the list was sent to Public Works Department (PWD) which improved them, reducing overall accidents annually, despite sharp increase in number of vehicles, he said.
