Mizoram home minister R Lalzirliana today expressed optimism that peace talks with the Hmar People's Convention (Democratic) will yield positive results in solving the political problems of the Hmar community.
Addressing Congress party workers at the Congress Bhavan here, Lalzirliana said the Hmar people pleaded with the state government to bring peace in the north eastern part of the state by brokering a peace deal with the HPC(D) militants.
"We understand the problems being faced by the Hmar community due to presence of the militant group and agreed to hold talks with the Hmar militants," he said adding, the government bowed down for the sake of peace.
The first round of talks between the state government and the HPC(D) was held on August 10, which ended on a positive note and both sides agreed to hold the second round of parleys in September.
The six-member HPC(D) delegation was headed by Lalthaliana, a church leader, while the four-member government delegation was led by additional secretary for home, Lalbiakzama.
