Reiterating party's commitment for zero tolerance for "criminalisation of politics", Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee chief Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu today served a show cause notice to state president of Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) Hardeep Singh Bawa.
In his notice, Sukhu asked Bawa to explain the circumstances under which a criminal case was registered against him leading to his arrest by Haryana police and gave him 15 days for replying to the notice and also submit the copy of the FIR.
"Involvement in a criminal case amounts to breach of discipline as per article XIX (f)(iv) of constitution of "Indian National Congress," the show cause notice said.
The notice, copies of which have been forwarded to AICC general secretary in-charge of Himachal Pradesh Birender Singh Chaudhary and chief minister Virbhadra Singh, maintained that Bawa's arrest has sullied the image of Congress party in Himachal.
Bawa who was appointed chairman of Himachal Pradesh building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board after Congress government came to power, recently surrendered in a old case registered against him under Arms Act before first class judicial magistrate in Kalka on March 26.
He was released on bail after three days.
The issue also rocked the state assembly with the opposition BJP demanding Bawa's removal from the post of chairman.
