HPPSC takes initiative to bridge English, non-English divide
Press Trust of India Shimla In a unique initiative to help candidates from rural background and not proficient in English, the Himachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (HPPSC) has started interviewing them in the language in which they feel comfortable.
"There is a large number of brilliant candidates with rural background who are unable to express themselves in English and suffer in comparison (to others) ... We have now started asking questions to these candidates in the language they are able to express better, thus bridging the English, non-English divide," HPPSC Chairman K S Tomar said.
This step has been appreciated by people in rural areas, who were not able to understand the question in English and answer them properly, he said.
He said the commission has taken a number of steps to facilitate applicants, bring efficiency and transparency and also provided a toll-free helpline to enable them to get their grievances resolved.
