The Haryana Government would give due compensation to farmers for the damage caused to their crops by the recent spell of unseasonal rain and hailstorms, Haryana Agriculture Minister O P Dhankar said.
After attending the Assembly session here today, Haryana Agriculture Minister O P Dhankar and Education Minister Ram Bilas Sharma, visited the fields of farmers in the districts of Mahendergarh and Rewari which were badly affected by rain and hailstorms.
They assessed the damages caused to the crops by taking an aerial view, an official release said here.
Dhankar said that at many places in the state it was found that crops had been damaged to the extent of about 15-20 per cent by rain where as 70-80 per cent damage had been caused by the hailstorms.
"Parallel to the special girdawari (revenue survey), the Agriculture Development Officers (ADOs) have been directed to assess the loss caused to the crops in their respective areas and send the report to the Agriculture Department," Dhankar added.
"Since banks provided insurance cover to the crops of loan farmers, they have been urged through a written communication, to stand by the farmers and pay them compensation under the cover," he said.
