The committee, it is learnt, would examine various issues related to the teaching of the language in the country and also on how to integrate the study of Sanskrit with other disciplines such as physics, chemistry, mathematics, medical science and law, and suggest changes in Sanskrit education in schools and universities.
When asked Gopalaswami, who is presently the Chancellor of Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeeth in Tirupati, said he had learnt of it over phone, but had yet to get intimation through writing.
NITI Aayog member Bibek Debroy, former government of India secretary V V Bhat, Chairman of National Skill Development Corporation Dr Ramadorai, Delhi University professor Ramesh Bharadwaj, UGC Chairman Ved Prakash and Chamu Krishna Shastri of the RSS-affiliated Samskrit Bharti, are among the other members in the committee, officials said.
The HRD ministry had earlier set up a panel for promotion of classical languages also.
