Several protesting Haryana Congress workers on cycles were today prevented from proceeding towards the state Assembly complex by the police here.
The protesters led by state Congress chief Ashok Tanwar were taken into preventive custody at the Panchkula-Chandigarh border.
Congress workers wanted to gherao the assembly complex on the opening day of its Budget Session, to protest against the alleged "failures" of BJP-led Haryana government.
"The Manohar Lal Khattar government in Haryana has completely failed on all fronts. There is a complete failure of law and order and there is resentment among businessmen and youth against the BJP government," Tanwar alleged while talking to the media.
Protesting the police action, he said Congress workers were going to 'gherao' the Vidhan Sabha in a democratic way but the Khattar government stopped them to cover its own failure.
Tanwar and other Congress workers were later let off.
