Terming the poor results of Class X and XII exams in the state as worrying, the Haryana government today tried to blame the previous Congress regime for the same, saying they used to show "better results" by giving "grace marks" to students.
Speaking at a press conference here, State Education Minister Ram Bilas Sharma in reply to a question said the state government will introduce Bhagwad Gita in school curriculum in the state from June/July this year and dismissed criticism that it was a step towards "saffronisation of education".
"We are all set to introduce Bhagwad Gita in school curriculum...," he said.
He also said said the results declared yesterday by Haryana Board of School Education were "actual results" and no grace marks had been added "which had been the practice under the previous regime".
Nearly 60 per cent of Class X students have failed in the examination with overall pass percentage being 41.28 per cent while 53.96 per cent cleared the senior secondary (Class XII) examination.
Admitting that the results were "worrying", Sharma said that nearly 22 per cent students had got compartment/reappear in both Class X and XII examinations and now the government will make strenous effort to ensure that majority of these students pass the exams when they appear later this year.
"We will request our teachers to take extra classes for these students in June. Every effort will be made so that the students with a little help from teachers work hard and come out with flying colours," he said.

The Minister, who belongs to Mahendergarh in south Haryana, said it was heartening to know that students from that area had performed comparatively better, but the government will not rest till the education system in the state is set right.
"We have inherited many problems from the previous regime, bad shape of education being one of them," he said.
On the introduction of Gita in the curriculum, Sharma said it will be introduced from primary classes onwards.
"It is an established fact that a sound mind lies in sound body. Those people who accuse us of saffronisation, I want to tell them will they belie the fact that the colour of rays of sun at the time of its rising and setting too are saffron and those who worship God also wear clothes of this colour. The top deck of our national flag is saffron," he said.
He also said the state government will revive Sanskrit "as our entire mythology and and history is writen in this language".
