The Haryana government has doubled the incentive amount for inter-caste marriages under the Mukhyamantri Samajik Samrasta Antarjatiya Vivah Shagun Yojna with an immediate effect, an official said today.

The action has been taken to promote communal harmony and encourage inter-caste marriages, an official spokesman said.

Under the scheme, an incentive of Rs 2.5 lakh would be provided in the form of fixed deposit (FD) jointly in the name of the couple after getting the marriage registered with the competent authority.

The FD would be done in a government or nationalised bank with a lock-in period of three years with no pre-mature encashment facility, the spokesperson said.

"To avail oneself of the benefit, both should be Indian citizens and one of the spouse should be a Scheduled Caste and he/she should be a permanent resident of Haryana. The couple can apply for the incentive within three years from the date of marriage," he said.
