Haryana Health Minister Anil Vij today sought a detailed investigation into the death of a newborn after an ambulance carrying the baby got stuck in a traffic jam allegedly caused by a rally of the state Congress unit.

The child died at the PGIMS, Rohtak, yesterday after the ambulance was allegedly stuck for over 30 minutes during a cycle rally of Haryana Pradesh Congress chief Ashok Tanwar in Sonepat district.

Vij today instructed the director general of the Health Department to form a special investigation team to probe the matter and submit a report at the earliest. He also demanded police action while raising the issue with Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar.

Taking strict cognizance in the matter, Vij said in an official statement that "stopping an ambulance in any condition is intolerable and inhuman".

"It has come to notice that during the cycle rally, the Congress party workers were dancing in front of the ambulance, thus causing obstruction to it for long time due to which the new-born died. This is a serious matter, and those found guilty would not be spared," he added.

State Congrees chief Tanwar had taken out a 'Haryana Bachao Parivartan Lao' bicycle rally near Kundli village on the NH 1 targeting the BJP over the Rafale deal yesterday.

Asked about the issue, Tanwar today tweeted that the infant's father had said the child died as the ambulance was not equipped with oxygen cylinders, paramedical staff etc.

"Media is an important pillar of democracy, before reporting, they should have ascertained the facts. We are grieved on child's demise. Our condolences," Tanwar further said in his tweet.
