Days after a shocking incident of gang-rape of a 22-year-old woman from Sikkim, the Haryana police said today that it plans to bring officers from the north-eastern states and post them in cities like Gurgaon and Faridabad.
These officers would be appointed as nodal officers in police stations to tackle the problems being faced by persons from the north-east presently living in Gurugram (Gurgaon) and Faridabad, Haryana DGP B S Sandhu said.
He said a proposal would be sent to the state government for bringing such officers on deputation.
The DGP's comments came in the backdrop of a recent incident in which a 22-year-old woman from Sikkim was allegedly raped by three men in a moving car here and then thrown out on a road in Delhi.
Sandhu also said that a cash reward of Rs 2 lakh will be given for any information leading to the arrest of the accused.
"The name of the informer will be kept secret," he told reporters here.
He said that 'Operation Durga' would now also be launched in rural areas to provide safe environment to girls and women.
