The newly formed Haryana Shiromani Gurudwara Management Committee (HSGMC) today slammed Union Home Ministry for filing an affidavit in the Supreme Court against its formation.
The ministry has stated in its affidavit that the formation of the HSGMC was "illegal" and that the Haryana government had no authority to form it, HSGMC president Jagdish Singh Jhinda said here after an emergent meeting of the body here.
He said that the committee would fight tooth and nail against the Union government's move to get the HSGMC disbanded.
The committee would put up a strong legal battle in the court and, if need be, also take the fight to streets against the Union government's "high-handedness", Jhinda added.
He, however, added that the committee has full faith in the Supreme Court which would surely let justice prevail.
The HSGMC chief said that in 1966 under the Punjab Reorganisation Act, a separate panel to manage gurudwaras in Haryana too was to be formed but the successive Haryana governments somehow desisted the move for political considerations.

However, in July last year, the then Haryana government led by Bhupinder Singh Hooda passed the Act whereby HSGMC was formed.
Jhinda said that the Union home ministry had been "misguided" by Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal but the HSGMC would not tolerate this.
He said that the Home Ministry's move was a clear contradiction of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's assertion that his government favoured more powers for the states.
The HSGMC president also said that the Sikhs of Haryana had earned their right to have a separate committee after a prolonged struggle and the central government was bent upon hurting the Sikhs of Haryana at the instance of Parkash Singh Badal.
Warned the Union government and the Punjab government not to meddle in the affairs of Haryana, he said failing which they would have to bear the wrath of the Sikhs of Haryana.
HSGMC vice president Didar Singh Nalvi said that the representatives of the body had met Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar in this regard.
