Huge buoy recovered off coastal hamlet

A huge buoy covered with tyres bound together by chains was today found off Kanchirankudi hamlet near Tiruppulani in this district and investigations are on to ascertain its origin, police said.
They said the locals spotted the buoy and informed police, who along with Coastal Security Group, rushed to the spot and brought it ashore.
Police suspected that the 15 feet by six feet buoy, weighing about 200 kg, might have fallen off a ship and then drifted towards shore.
There was no symbol or mark on the buoy, they said.
