Huge turnout on last day of International Kite Festival

Delhiites today celebrated the 65th Republic Day by visiting the Third International Kite Festival to see kites of different shapes and sizes adorning the skyline of the national capital on the last day of the event.
The three-day event, inaugurated by Minister of Tourism Somnath Bharti on January 24 at Golden Jubilee Park, showcased some of the most unique kites ever seen with this year's highlights being night kite flying with LED kites and kite trails having more than 150 kites.
The last day of the annual festival witnessed a huge turnout which included Delhi Chief Secretary, S K Srivastava.

While one stall at the festival enlightened visitors about the age old art of kite flying, another displayed kites of varying sizes from one square inch to 70 square inch, and different material, like tissue paper, elastic paper, bamboo, cloth, etc.
Apart from these, the event, which had participants from United Kingdom, the USA, France, Lebanon, Indonesia and South Korea, also showcased Hexagon shaped kites, kathakali kites from Kerala, dragon kites, as well as Bhagat Singh kites.
The festival also had magic shows every day, cultural programs by Sahitya Kala Parishad and Punjabi Academy every evening and a special painting competition for children on the second day of the event.

There were 30 Indian kite flyers who came from Rajkot, Mangalore, Trivandrum, Chandigarh, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Chennai and Kerala.
