The 10 candidates of the newly formed Delhi Cricket Council (DCC) recorded a landslide victory in the Sports Committee election of the Delhi & Districts Cricket Association (DDCA), ending the controversial tenure of Vinod Tihara faction.
In what turned out to be an absolute one-sided poll battle, the DCC group led by Dr Ahmad Tamim and former first-class cricketer Gautam Vadhera cantered to victory winning all the 10 seats of the Sports Committee.
The Sports Committee is the most important body in DDCA as it selects all the age-group as well as senior state teams.
Tihara, who has had allegations such as "nepotism, blatant corruption" levelled against him, could manage only 43 votes while Tappu Sharma with 45 votes had the highest number.
Anil Chaudhary, who hadn't lost a single DDCA election in last 15 years got only 41 votes.
On the contrary, Ajit Singh Madhok won the highest number of votes 68 for the winning faction. Anil Passi and Vadhera were tied second with 67 votes each while Manbeer Bhatia and Dr Tamim got 64 votes apiece. Ramesh Sachdeva received 66 votes while Praveen Soni and Rajeev Malhotra polled 60 votes each. N K (Chikku) Sharma and Lalit Sharma got 59 votes apiece.
A delighted Vadhera said,"It's a great victory for us. The win would assure the members that they don't need to be disillusioned. Truth has prevailed and there is no short-cut to honesty and transparency.
"I can promise that there won't be any compromise regarding U-16, U-19 team selections. The junior cricketers who never got to see Test and IPL matches will be getting tickets. We would certainly try to put a system in place with the blessings of the executive committee and Mr Jaitley.
