AJKPC also indicted the State and National Human Rights Commissions for their failure to pressurise the government in saving the lives of panchayat members.
"Jammu and Kashmir government has failed to protect the lives of elected panchayat members in the state. We appeal to world human rights organisations to intervene and take note of their brutal killings," AJKPC chairman Shafiq Mir told reporters here today.
Ghulam Mohammad Lone (45) was shot by militants inside his residence at Kulpora village, 35 km from Srinagar.
Terming the Centre as "mute spectator", Mir criticised the union government's attitude towards safety and security of the state's 33,000 panchayat leaders.
"They (the Centre) have been mute spectators to the killing of panchayat members," Mir alleged.
