The incident came to light in the morning when some villagers spotted the charred vehicle near the canal, Jhajjar SP, Patram Singh said.
On spotting a human skeleton inside the vehicle, the villagers informed the police about it.
The police extricated the skeleton from the van and took it to the Civil Hospital for postmortem.
"On basis of the engine and chassis numbers of the van, it has been ascertained that the vehicle was purchased from New Delhi two years back", the SP said.
Stating efforts were underway to trace the identify of the deceased, Singh said, the postmortem report would confirm whether the deceased was a male or a female.
The help of forensic experts has been taken to solve the case, the police official said.
