State Police Commissioner Frank Noonan urged members of the public to come forward with any clues they might have following last night's assault at the Blooming Grove Barracks in Pike County, in a bid to track down the perpetrator.
"This attack was an ambush. Our troopers were leaving the barracks and were shot without warning and really had no chance to defend themselves," Noonan told reporters.
"It's a cowardly attack. It's an attack upon all of us in society and the people of Pennsylvania."
"We're looking for the cooperation of the public, whether it's money that would motivate you or just outrage at this terrible act," Noonan said.

"The Pennsylvania State Police and law enforcement in general will not rest until this individual is apprehended."
Several hundred troopers and law enforcement agents were working the case, according to Noonan.
"We're talking to many people. There is no specific person that is a suspect. Just because someone is being interviewed or we're looking to interview them, does not mean they are a suspect in any way. No one is in custody."
Noonan said earlier that the attack occurred around 10:50 pm (0250 GMT Saturday) and that police from the neighbouring states of New York and New Jersey had provided helicopters to assist in the search.
While a motive remains unclear, Noonan said the attack clearly targeted authorities. Still, he urged the public to exercise caution and keep an eye out for anything suspicious.
"This attack was directed specifically at law enforcement and specifically the Pennsylvania State Police," he said.
In the wake of the shooting, Pennsylvania Governor Tom Corbett ordered flags to be flown at half-staff in honour of Dickson.
