Losing their opening Oppo Champions League Twenty20 tie against Kings XI Punjab here, Hobart Hurricanes coach Damien Wright admitted he was disappointed but said his side would take a lot of positives from the game.
"Disappointed but there are a lot of positives we are going to take out of the game, there's no doubt about that. I guess we are getting used to the conditions, all those sorts of things. I thought they bowled well, but (batsmen) we just didn't hit the gaps," Wright said at the post-match press conference here.
"I thought we bowled particularly well and gave ourselves a real contest and a real chance with a pretty low total," he insisted.
KXIP chased down 145 in the 18th over, losing five wickets in the process while riding on the back of an all-round performance from Thisara Perera and valuable knocks of Glenn Maxwell and George Bailey.
Asked if the Mohali pitch had something in it early on as the two openers Tim Paine and Ben Dunk took a bit longer to settle down, Wright said, "I guess so. Had we won the toss we would have bowled as well. It did nip around a little bit early and took our openers to sort of get some time to get in, that was pretty noticeable.
"Unfortunately, we didn't get off to the start that we wanted to and I thought they bowled particularly well, upfront."
About 43 dot balls being bowled, he said, "I think we hit the field a lot too, Paine hit to backward point, probably four or five times. On good nights they go to the fence for four and we would have been away to a really solid start," the coach said.
