The incident came to light around 8 am today when the victim Tahira's husband Aziz Khan made a PCR call informing that he had murdered his wife and was going to surrender at the nearest police station.
However, he did not turn up and was arrested later from Kanjhawala area after police launched a manhunt.
The couple lived in the house with their younger son Imran who had gone to a gym when the incident took place.
Khan also called up his son Imran and told him that he had killed his wife in fit of rage, police said.

When a police team reached the spot it found the woman lying on the floor in a pool of blood while the axe was found lying beside her. Police seized the murder weapon and the body was sent for postmortem.
Khan ran a tailor shop and had been staying with his family in Roopali Enclave colony of Kanjhawala for the past many years. The couple had frequent fights over family issues, police said quoting their neghbours.
Police is questioning Aziz's family members to know what led to the extreme step.
The couple's elder son lives in Kanpur, Khan's native.
