According to Director General (Prisons and Correctional Services) V K Singh, an allegation of corruption was received against the superintendent of the sub jail of Huzurabad and three other staff by a released prisoner.
"The released prisoner, on being contacted from the third party caller working on behalf of the prisons department, informed that the jail staff had been recording less money than they deposit at the time of admission into the sub jail," the DG said based on the complaint.
On receipt of the complaint, an inquiry was ordered and a report was sought. In the formal probe, the reports were proved true, the DG said.
He said senior officials of the department visited the facility to verify the facts.

"Hence, the four prison personnel were placed under suspension," he said.
The department has adopted a zero tolerance policy to any act of corruption or financial irregularity in the department, Singh said.
"This is the first department to have declared itself corruption free and is giving Rs 5,000 as reward to any complainant who proves any allegation of corruption against any jail official," he said.
