Hyderabad's 'She Teams' to keep eye on eve-teasers, stalkers

Police have formed special teams to curb incidents like eve-teasing and stalking of women at crowded places and educational institutes in the State capital.
"She Teams" will be stationed at areas such as bus stands, women colleges and hostels, Hyderabad Police Commissioner P Mahender Reddy, said today.
The teams, which will have five women cops each, would mingle with common people at important places and will be armed with video-recording gadgets, he said.
"The team members will be in civil dress. We will use video footage as evidence to book eve-teasers or stalkers. We will also call parents or relatives of the accused and counsel them before filing cases and producing them in court," Reddy said at a press conference here.

The Commissioner said the police department is in the process of preparing a draft policy on curbing eve-teasing and harassment to women.
To a query, he said the police are investigating the case of two men who were arrested on Wednesday last while they were allegedly planning to go to Afghanistan to get training from al-Qaeda for carrying out terror activities in India.
The duo - a suspected SIMI operative and a man linked to Indian Mujahideen - was booked under Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
