The Indian Broadcasting Foundation (IBF) today said the Information and Broadcasting Ministry should have referred the matter pertaining to the coverage of Pathankot terror attack by Hindi channel NDTV India to News Broadcasting Standards Authority (NBSA) before imposing a one- day ban on it.
The IBF, which has leading broadcasters as its members, in a statement said it believes the Ministry should have referred the matter to the NBSA, the independent self-regulatory body of News Broadcasters Association (NBA), before taking extreme measures of this sort.
The IBF is concerned over the November 2 order passed by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and requests it to reconsider its decision, the statement said.
The Ministry has already decided to "put on hold" the order to impose the ban on the channel, after the broadcaster requested that the decision be reviewed.
Officials said that the decision has been put on hold till the time the appeal is disposed of.
